Magic Minute Those Passionate Italians

MAGIC MINUTE // Ever noticed how Italians experience everything they’re involved in with an infectious passion!

Well, having lived with them and studied their language for years I’m getting to understand this.

I was once stuck in an endless traffic jam trying to reach a remote village perched atop a mountain in rural Italy. So I got out and started chatting to the guy ahead of me in Italian.

“Where are you from?” he asked detecting my accent.

“I’m from Australia.”

“Australia!” he exclaimed. “I lived there too!” he said in English.

“Where?”

“In Essendon!”

“Mama Mia! I’m from Box Hill, just around the corner!”

And with that we threw our arms around each other and danced around like long lost friends.

But the cars were now moving, those behind blaring their horns and screaming their disapproval at the two idiots holding everything up in the middle of the road!

Could only happen in Italy… and I’d become one of them!
