Magic Minute Opening New Doors
MAGIC MINUTE // You never know the background of people you befriend or the doors they can open once they get a nice feeling for you.
They could know somebody, who knows somebody, who could lessen the pain of running that dispiriting job-seeking gauntlet and open new doors for you.
I was once chatting to an unassuming youth adventure group leader I’d befriended, and he turned out to be a top honcho in one of Victoria’s major infrastructure programs.
But I’d never have guessed it!
Now, if I was in need of a job in this area, and because we were now friends with a mutual interest in youth development, I could simply say, “Who would I talk to about a job in, (and I’d state my interest) and is it okay if I mention this chat with you?”
This would show you’re a giver outside your work as well.
So, in response to, “What do you do with your time?” It’s fine to say, “Right now I’m in between opportunities seeking employment in (and tell them the area you’re interested in).
And you never know the background of people you befriend socially, or the doors they could open once they get to know you a little.
I’m Laurie Smale… Till my next Magic Minute.🪄
