Magic Minute A Teaspoon Of Sugar
MAGIC MINUTE // “The song might say a teaspoon of sugar makes medicine easier to swallow, but that’s not all it can do!
While visiting some Italian friends, something caught my eye.
The teaspoon in the sugar bowl was shaped like a little shovel with a lovely enamel design on its handle. ‘How practical’, I thought, and I told them so.
“Oh, this is very precious to us, for it’s been in the family for ages,” they said, and went on to share this humble teaspoon’s interesting story.
Touched by my sincere interest in this family heirloom, they said, “Would you like it?”
Their generosity floored me! My comments weren’t meant to snavel their spoon!
But their heartfelt offer was so genuine, I could see they’d be hurt if I refused.
So my feeble protests gave way to acceptance which generated much joy.
Years later, this little spoon still sits in my sugar bowl and makes me feel good when I use it.
I’m Laurie Smale… Till my next magic minute. 🪄
