Magic Minute Wonderful Wonderful Birmingham?
MAGIC MINUTE // “For those who live in England’s historic Birmingham, you either love it, hate it, or something in between.
A stately friend of mine of Danish origin told me he was once out for an early morning stroll while visiting Birmingham and chatting away in his native tongue with a friend when a couple of locals stopped and asked, “What language are you speaking?”
“We’re speaking Danish.”
“But what are you doing here?!”
Such was their incredulity that Morten and his friend avoided a lengthy explanation of having lived in England for a couple of years and liked to explore different places. So he simply said, “We’re on vacation.”
“Vacation here in Birmingham! But why?!”
The concept was so beyond their comprehension they were still shaking their heads in wonder as they walked on.
But Morten added, “We did enjoy the local library, which was quite impressive.”
I guess a visitor’s take on the wonders of a place are all in the inner eye of the beholder.
