Magic Minute Standing Up For Yourself

MAGIC MINUTE // For most of his early years, James lived in the bullying thrall of his older brother, till one day it all stopped.

He’d just sat down in the armchair to watch a bit of television when the dark pall of his brother filled the room.

“Get out of my chair!,” he said.

Then, for no reason, he reefed James up and threw him across the room.

Then he retired to the inner sanctum of his bedroom.

This did it! After years of shameful torment, James had had enough.

Seething with pent up rage, he entered his brother’s forbidden bedroom, which he’d rarely done, and said, “Never do that to me again!”

Astonished, his brother simply said, “Okay, do you want to come and have some fish and chips with me?”

And that’s what they did, and have been friends ever since.

Sometimes you’ve just got to stand up for yourself.
