Magic Minute Should Have Listened
MAGIC MINUTE // Heavy rains the night before had the creek running higher than usual.
“Should be all right,” Johan thought. “I’ve crossed this ford before and I know where the rocks are.”
Our bike group leader saw it differently.
“Better play it safe and walk across, we don’t know what’s under there!”
But Johan had already plunged in.
The rocks were where he remembered, but they were covered in slippery slime.
Within seconds he’d slipped over and was up to his neck in the deeper weir, struggling for the bank.
Johan later told us, “For some reason I didn’t let go of my bike and we both got out safely.
While we enjoyed a nice warm coffee and cake on the other side, a sheepish Johan was ringing out his clothes as best he could. And no one said a word.
