Magic Minute Little Big Man
MAGIC MINUTE // “I was Twenty four, sitting there completely lost and wondering, “What’s this all about?”
I was watching the 1970 satirical Western, ‘Little Big Man’ which was far too deep and nuanced for my narrow view of the world to cope with.
Because of social circumstance I’d run away from school at 13 because I didn’t get it, so my mind was nowhere near geared to getting the subtleties of this complex movie either.
So let’s fast forward through my decades of plodding self-learning, my halting reading, for I stop to savour things when I read, to my hard-won university degree when I was nudging 40.
Interesting that part of my studies had me facing this same movie that’d so deflated me years before.
Only this time I enjoyed it and understood it all!
Like the movie’s title, I’d grown from being ‘Little Shallow Man’ to becoming ‘Little Big Man’ myself.
