Magic Minute “Good Morning” and The Unexpected

MAGIC MINUTE // “Good morning” I said, as a pensive, middle-aged lady strolled by me on our walking track. She went on a little and stopped.

Her reply threw me:

“Thank you so much for your warm “Good morning,” she kindly said. “But my morning is not so good at all.”

For a moment I was lost for words, then I gently said, “It looks like we’re in for some nice weather… I hope some uplifting sunshine brightens up the day for you.”

A weak smile crossed her face and she continued on her quiet way.

I remained there deep in thought for I didn’t expect this.

It made me realise that my cheery “Good morning’ isn’t necessarily how others are feeling, or why they’re out for a walk.

Sure, most people will respond in kind, even a nod, a smile, but others may choose not to respond at all, and that’s fine too.

Yet that lady’s revealing response was just as enriching to me, as my “Good morning” was to her.
