Magic Minute Awakening to What They See

MAGIC MINUTE // I kept a straight face but froze inside. As coach-leader of my first under 35s camping-tour, one of my young cohorts said, “Have you got any Monty Python tapes?”

Everyone looked at me assuming I did, for they were all the rage at the time.

Of course I didn’t have Monty Python tapes among my stack of music! I’d never understood their weird humour and nonsensical take on life!

To me they weren’t funny at all, for I was used to straight, ‘easy to get’ comedy.

Then my bus driver Ken said, “I’ve got some!” and saved my skin.

But what a shift in my thinking!

At trip’s end, I was with them, laughing heartily at the outrageous shenanigans this legendary group of artists got up to… and I still enjoy them today!

This experience taught me not to be so rigid in my views of life, and open my mind to learn without prejudice.
