Magic Minute Wild Horses Took Me Away!
MAGIC MINUTE // I was perilously perched on a branch 3 meters above Peter the baker’s son, leading Dolly, a massive white Clydesdale horse directly beneath me. “Don’t worry, she’s quiet and knows what to d0,” he said reassuringly.
Each day it was Peter’s task to ‘bring in the horses’ from a farm agistment about three miles from the bakery for the day’s horse-and-cart delivery of freshly baked bread.
But now I was way above Dolly and she was ginormous! “What do I do?” I said full of fear.
“Just drop down onto her,” said Peter, “She knows the way home.”
With great trepidation I dropped down onto Dolly’s huge bare back, grabbing the rope around her neck.
Well, she took off at a hundred miles an hour with me bouncing around and hanging on for dear life!
It was only when Peter caught up with me on Max, the other brown Clydesdale, that Dolly kicked into a higher gear!
Up hill and down dale we raced, my short legs unable to get any grip… I really thought I was going to die!
Till at long last, we slowed down and blissfully turned into the stables.
I slid all the way down in a cold sweat, shaking from the ordeal – amazed that I was still alive!
Don’t remember ever helping Peter ‘Bring in the Horses’ after that!
