Magic Minute Disappointment Becomes Opportunity
MAGIC MINUTE // As part of my chequered wanderings, I once tried my hand at bus driving. “A good honest job where all I have to do is be nice to people,” I thought.
So I set about getting my Light-Frame Bus Licence, and what a disaster this was!
My first attempt failed because I left the depot with my hazard lights still flashing; my second attempt wasn’t any better. I turned left into a red light and froze.
My Scottish instructor said, “What are you doin’ Laurie!” and failed me.
My third attempt failed because the bus rolled backwards on a hill.
A costly, soul-destroying six weeks!
So I tried another licencing company and just managed to scrape through.
At the actual job driving test, I was disqualified for parking the full-size bus six inches away from the curb… I kid you not!
But not one to dwell on disappointment, I went back to a 3-book project I’d been working on for years, and gave it a whole new look through fresh eyes.
I’m so glad I did.
For it was this that launched me into becoming the inspirational change-agent I am today.
I’m Laurie Smale… Till my next Magic Minute.🪄
