Magic Minute A Lifebuoy of Hope

MAGIC MINUTE // Ever found yourself in water so deep you’re about to go under when a lifebuoy miraculously comes your way?

I was nervously sitting in the college cafeteria having clawed my way through a year of five subjects as the last chance, mature age drop-out and about to face my computer exam.

The bane of my life!

As I sat there battling my fear, I spied a small piece of paper under the table and shoved it in my pocket.

Then crunch time, with me sweating in front of that computer trying to understand the directions of writing a program for buying a kilogram of nails for a set price, and how much change I’d get from $20.

Icy shivers took hold of me for my shameful incompetence was about to be found out!

Then I remembered that little piece of paper.

With trembling hands, I entered its strange information into the computer.

And wonder of wonders, it came to life and printed out an answer!

Congratulations, you’ve successfully completed this examination.

Now, I’ve never seen this episode as cheating… Just another step in surviving the traumatic journey of getting Laurie educated.

And at long last, here I am, a valuable contributor to society.
