Magic Minute Things Animals Teach Us
MAGIC MINUTE // We learn a lot from animals, even vicious predatory ones like ferrets.
As a young lad, I was smitten with the idea of having my own ferrets to do some rabbiting to help my single mum feed us kids.
But I needed a blueprint on how to look after them and manage their bloodthirsty instincts.
I gleaned all this from a kind farmer and wasted no time in setting up my own ferret dream farm.
“Look after them and they’ll be clean and as fluffy as cats,” he said. “They won’t hurt you because they’ll scent you’re their friend.”
So, I got thoughtfully building their comfortable home from an old kitchen cupboard with its own secret compartment to take refuge in. As well as a wire netting area for their toilet to keep them nice and clean.
Susie and Jiggy responded to my devoted care with love, which I returned unreservedly.
They’d literally spring for joy as we set off on our rabbiting jaunts in the countryside. For we were a very efficient team.
And how exciting it was to hear the rabbits bolting for their lives from their natural enemy! As well as the joy of giving my little friends a well-earned treat of rabbit liver should our netting strategies prove successful.
They knew all this and looked forward to their reward!
The lesson here is; real cooperation stems from being kind and caring.
I’m Laurie Smale… Till my next Magic Minute.🪄
