MAGIC MINUTE // “Hey, Dad’s back from ferreting rabbits – and he’s got a dog with him!” The boys cried out.
Trixie the fox terrier had arrived.
From then on she joined them swimming in the local billabong or racing around the Murray River mud flats on their bikes and she was fearless, even take on the deadly eastern brown snakes of the area.
“Dart in and dispatch ’em with a single bite,” Greg recalls.
Years went by, till one sad day their Dad returned from his rabbiting with Trixie cradled in his arms.
Greg went quiet.
“She just got old. This time the snake got in first.”
Trixie now sleeps by the river near the mud flats that gave her such an adventurous life.
